Mighty Cats

Mighty Cats is a fully on-chain game that ties every virtual cat to a real shelter animal. An in-house Yurny concept, it grew out of one team member's work running an animal shelter, and it set an unusual design problem.

Most NFT projects lean on scarcity to create value, but a shelter mission needs the opposite: the more cats in players' hands, the more good it does. So the collectibles had to gain worth through evolving utility instead of rarity, and the game had to stand on its own as something genuinely fun, with the cause built into the play rather than bolted on.

The design leans into progression. Players adopt a MightyCat, then feed and train it through everyday actions that earn experience, unlock levels, and evolve the collectible itself. Walletless onboarding lets newcomers sign up and start playing right away. Under the surface, smart contracts handle experience and leveling directly, while a Laravel backend manages sensitive transactions and user data and a Vue.js client drives the interface.

Mighty Cats shipped as a working demo, built under hackathon conditions, and took third place on the Gaming Track at Flow to the Future. It stands as a proof of concept that an anti-scarcity, utility-first model can carry a social mission and still hold up as a game.
